Mr & Mrs Williams- Fairways Hotel, Porthcawl, South Wales

Fairways Hotel Wedding- Porthcawl South Wales

Luka and Russ chose to have a Fairways Hotel wedding on the seafront in Porthcawl. This venue is so special as it has this beautiful orangery conservatory which looks out onto the sea! It was the perfect backdrop for their wedding breakfast and the light it let into the building was a photographers dream!

“We chose the fairways as it was so flexible and we got to choose everything ourselves!  It’s a perfect location by the sea- our families favourite place to be. We also had the whole venue to ourselves which was perfect.”

The pair met through a mutual friend and would always bum into each other in town, still to this day Russ won’t admit he made the first move! He finally plucked up the courage to ask the questions whilst in Prague on holiday. “He carried the ring in his pocket all weekend until he found the perfect spot in Letna park. He made me sit there for ages to wait for people to leave!”

The Morning

Luka got ready at her mums house in Bridgend with her bridesmaids, mum and daughter Isla. While Russ got ready at their own home with his groomsmen and their son, Oliver. The morning was relaxed and full of pampering with the girls getting their hair and make-up done- even little Isla! The skies were dark and grey all morning and suddenly the rain gushed from the clouds but luckily didn’t last long.

Sadly, Luka’s dad had previously passed away and wasn’t there for her wedding. However he had his own chair during the ceremony and was thought of fondly throughout the day. Luka’s grandad (her fathers father) was almost not going to see Luka on her wedding day either but we managed to make it work! Her grandfather is in hospital just a few miles away from where Luka was getting ready. She had plenty of time before the 2 o’clock ceremony and payed her grandfather a visit in the hospital wearing her wedding dress! The hospital staff, patients and her granddad were over the moon to see Luka and the nurses wheeled her grandfather to the lounge room especially for our arrival. It was a very emotional time for everyone and I was amazed both Luka and Allana, her bridesmaid and sister, managed to keep it together.

The Ceremony

We popped back to the house for final preparations before the car arrived to take the girls, Luka and her step-dad Den to the Fairways Hotel for the wedding! Den has been in Luka’s life for a really long time and it made sense for him to step in and be the one to walk her down the aisle to a waiting Russ.

The ceremony at Fairways Hotel was beautiful and sweet not to mention emotional for everyone. After the ceremony the skies were moody but dry. We rushed over to the edge of the beach to start the group shots. Although before we could take any photographs we saw a looking black cloud coming over! So rushed back inside before the heavens opened again. We did manage to find a break in the clouds and the sun even came out so we did get our photographs in the sun in the end.

The Reception

“We knew we wanted a relaxed atmosphere like a family gathering rather than a formal meal so went for the option of afternoon tea.” I love it when couples do something different for their wedding breakfast! These guys opted for unlimited afternoon tea in Fairways Hotel’s orangery! There were sandwiches, mini cakes, mini scones and all the tea and prosecco you could drink! Den gave a heartwarming emotional speech which had lots of guests welling up. Luka’s mum gave a wonderful speech in the form of an acrostic poem. (where the first letter of each line spells out a name.) She then gave the poem in a frame as a gift! The best man told some brilliant stories from his time in school with the groom, much to Russ’s embarrassment!

I stole Luka and Russ away after food to get some couple portraits on the seafront. These guys were amazing, climbing down steep rocks in their wedding attire, nothing phased them! We had an awesome time trying out some cool techniques with the sea water and the gorgeous sunset skies. We got back in time to the evening guests to arrive. They opened the dancefloor by dancing to James Arthur and the kids joined in too which was so sweet!

Huge thanks to Luka and Russ for having me at your Fairways Hotel Wedding. It was so perfect and a pleasure to photograph!

Big thanks to Lauren for being my awesome second shooter too!
