Villa Tolomei- Tuscany Wedding
Oh my gosh where do I begin! Becci and Joel initially got in touch with me to see if I would consider doing a Tuscany wedding! Yes please! We met to discuss everything and then had their engagement session at Hengistbury Head back in May 2017. We had such a great time and I knew their wedding was going to be incredible.
I flew to Pisa on the Monday morning and got the train to Florence. Florence is such a beautiful city and I can completely understand how they fell in love with the place. Becci even said her favourite part of the wedding planning was visiting Florence for all the wedding organisation! I mooched around the cobbled streets and found the best gelato bar (thanks for the recommendation Becci!) then met the couple and all the guests in a garden bar in the evening.
Tuesday was Tuscany wedding day! We got up early and I went with the girls up the hill to the stunning Villa Tolomei. The villa used to be a historic Renaissance home but has been renovated and restored into a 5* luxury hotel. The villa is surrounded by the green hills of Marignolle and has a panoramic view of the Florentine hills down towards the old town.
“We loved the Italian style villa with the large outdoor space and especially loved the views from the back of the venue and the driveway entrance. We wanted the majority of our wedding to be outside in the sunshine too.”
It was 8:30am when we arrived at the venue and the ceremony wasn’t until 3pm so we had plenty of time to get everything done. They started getting ready in a beautiful room downstairs in the villa until the bridal suite was ready. The girls from Beauty on Fleek, based in Florence, did a fantastic job despite Becci crying off most of her make-up after she opened Joel’s gift! He had written her a framed poem for their wedding day and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room!
Joel arrived with his brother who was also his best man to put the final touches to the ceremony location before the guests arrived. The ceremony was held under a tree in the grounds of the villa with incredible views off into the distance. They had written their own vows and it truly was incredibly emotional. After the ceremony there were drinks on the terrace overlooking the olive groves and that amazing view.
Becci, Joel and I snuck off to find the Vintage VW van ready to take us to some of Becci and Joel’s favourite places around Florence for their couple photographs! The sun was blazing when we got to San Miniato church near Piazalle Michaelangelo but what an incredible place!
We took the VW back to the venue to be welcomed back by all the guests ready to sit for their wedding breakfast. The sun was setting just before they had desert so I quickly pulled them outside for a wander down to the pool and the olive groves in the Italian sunset.
The evening brought hilarious speeches, cutting the cake in the dark, sparklers and a first dance in a wine cellar!
The whole Tuscany wedding was incredible, I loved every second! The sunlight, the architecture, the people, everything was perfection. Tuscany, you’ve stolen my heart. A huge thank you to Becci and Joel for trusting me to capture your day- it’s one I’ll never forget!
