Emily Victoria Romanian Orthodox Baptism

Romanian Orthodox Baptism On Sunday 18th March, I was fortunate enough to capture little Emily’s Romanian Orthodox Baptism in Bristol. The ceremony was absolutely gorgeous!  Even though I had no clue what was happening (because the entire thing was performed in Romanian!), I still really enjoyed being a part of it. In a Romanian Orthodox Baptism, the Godparents play the most important role whilst the parents watch on. The Godparents are said to take on the role of spiritual guides for the baby – like a second set of parents. Emily’s Godparents we’re her Aunt and Uncle on her mothers side so she was already comfortable with them. The godparents are in charge of buying the new outfit, the decorated candle for the ceremony and also small ribbons with crosses which must be pinned to each guest (me included!). The candle signifies the baby becoming enlightened through the baptism. The ceremony The ceremony was really interesting, and reading up on the reasoning afterwards was also eye-opening. The priest started the baptism at the back of the beautiful church, facing the west wing. In orthodox religion, the baby came to this life carrying the sin from Adam and Eve. They must receive the light and chase Satan away before entering the church. After,  everyone turns to the East where the light comes from, to say a prayer called ‘The Belief’. The baptismal font was gold and grand in the front of the church. The priest anointed Emily with the holy oil (Oil of joy) to bring god’s mercy and chase away evil and sins. On a glorious sunny Saturday in March, Hotel TerraVina held their first wedding showcase! The hotel is nestled within the New Forest with it’s award winning food and incredible service, it makes the perfect place for your intimate wedding. Couples, mothers and daughters, brides and friends all flocked to the sunny hotel to visit Terravina’s first wedding showcase. The hotel looked so inviting in the afternoon glow- especially the outdoor pool! The showcase was friendly and welcoming due to having one supplier per service and no hard sell. With drink flowing and the low buzz of wedding chatter, it made for the perfect backdrop to imagine your special day held at the TerraVina. The hotel has always been licensed to hold wedding ceremonies but not any people know this as it’s firstly an incredible restaurant. The showcase was a way to let everyone know that you can get married at this bespoke hotel too. The showcase is set to be an annual event, possibly even bi-annual! The suppliers tables and set-ups looked beautiful and everyone was so friendly and welcoming, a perfect wedding showcase!
